Professional Experience & Achievements

Stephanie Small is a Marriage, Family and Child Therapist with over 30 years of experience. She integrates an extensive knowledge of the medical field into her psychotherapy practice and is recognized by leading physicians in Los Angeles for her unique work with children and adults who are chronically or terminally ill. In addition, she specializes in working with children, adolescents, adults and families in crises or suffering from grief. Ms. Small is a child advocate in the Los Angeles public and private school systems and is frequently invited to educate faculty, parents and students on pressing, contemporary topics.

Most recently, Ms. Small co-founded and is on the advisory board of erikscause.org and co-created a prevention DVD along with educational materials to educate teachers, parents, tweens, and teens on the potentially devastating dangers of “The Choking Game” now an international epidemic among middle and high school students. Ms. Small is also recognized for her expertise in helping divorcing parents develop “in the best interest of the child” parenting agreements. 

She is an Approved Consultant at The Parnell Institute of Attachment-Focused EMDR. She is the Training Coordinator for The Parnell Institute of AF-EMDR. She is internationally certified in EMDR to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorders in Adults, Children, and Teens. She was founding Director of Children’s Education and Training for the Trauma Resource Institute and has presented at various trainings throughout the country. She was on a trauma relief team in New Orleans following Hurricane’s Katrina and Rita and provided on-site trainings to mental health professionals during the 2007 California wildfires. 

She supervises and trains other therapists, teachers and medical professionals on children’s issues including grief and trauma. 

She was a founding board member of the Association for Psychoanalytic Thought and Wendy’s Hope at City of Hope. 

She is a member of Parnell Institute of Attachment-Focused EMDR, EMDRIA, CAMFT, AAMFT and GAINS.
